Gallery: Marina Abramovic’s Performance Takes an Emotional Turn

Marina Abramovic, the Serbian female performance artist many of us are familiar with, is known for testing the limits of her body. But this was not the case for her performance at MOMA (2012) entitled “The Artist is Present.” She sat in a chair, clothed, surprisingly, in a brilliant red gown, NOT naked, for a total of 700+ hours. Here, Abramovic would share one minute with each visitor who dared to have a silent stare off with the queen of performance art. She looks down between each each guest, eyes closed, and then opens them when they sit down, not knowing who or what to expect.

Well folks, this is SO MAJOR. On her opening night at MOMA her former lover of 13 years, who also was her partner in her performances, decided to SURPRISE her. They have not spoken since they parted at the Great Wall of China decades ago.

The video speaks for itself. PLEASE watch and embrace life and beauty for what it is.

Remember the past, look forward to the future, but never forget those who impacted your he(ART).
